The Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic jointed in the United Nations in September 18. 1973.
However Germany’s engagement with the UN goes further back to 1955 when the Federal Republic of Germany was admitted as the Member Observer and the German Democratic Republic in 1972.
In October 1990 after the fall of Berlin wall, die Bundesrepublik Deutschland was recognized one State Member in the UN.

Since 1973 with the full Membership Deutschland has been a key player in UN Peace and Security Mission around the world; and one of the main financial donors to the UN global funds. Deutschland contributes 7.1% (over USD 190 million per year to the United Nations, ranking the third donors to the UN regular budget, following the US with the 22 percent and the EU states 35 percent (as a Member of EU, Germany contributes to the EU funds for UN as well)

Added to the regular funds Germany simultaneously has a large financial contributions to:

The UN International Criminal Tribunals
And UN Agencies, Foundations and UN specialized Programmes

As a non-permanent Member of the Security Council the Federal Republic of Germany had been elected as an active Member for the Council in the following periods:

Die Bundeswehr and die Bundespolizei in UN Peacekeeping Operations

Germany Provides the UN with the most High level senior Police Officer.

In 2013, United Nations Secretary-General appointed Herr Stefan Feller of Germany as the UN Police Adviser in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations.

The Award of Excellence for die Bundeswehr from the UN Peacekeeping Center NY

In November 2014, the Bundeswehr UN Peacekeeping Training Center received, for the third time, the certificate of Excellence for Military Experts on Mission.

In an official ceremony at the Bundeswehr’s UN Peacekeeping Training Center in Hammelburg, the Commander of the Training Command Major General Walter Spindler presented ‘The Award of Excellence for Military Experts on Mission’ from the UN Department of Peacekeeping New York, to Colonel Reinhard Barz.

This is the third time, since 2007, that the Bundeswehr Peacekeeping Training Center in Hammelburg has been recognized and honoured with the Award of Excellence, for its unique quality of education and training, by the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping in New York.

Among other Military education, the Center also trains the UN Military Observers for the various missions in the world.
In the recent time the Center has been training a team of Bundeswehr Personnel as the Military observers for the missions in Western Sahara, Southern Sudan and Ukraine.
