General von Steuben Day in the United States

In honour of General von Steuben, the parade in the United States (German-American Day)

September 19, 2015

The Prußian Military Commander who came to U.S, served as a Major General of the Continental Army and helped General Washington in the Revolutionary war. General von Steuben is also known to have built the foundation of U.S NCO. His training book ‘Blue Book’ is still considered as a strategic disciplinary training book in the US Army.

Every years in the U.S the third Saturday (close to the birthday of General von Steuben 17 September 1730) is celebrated as a day of honouring the Prußian Commander in US Continental Army General von Steuben. The day is also called German-American Day*

There were Military and Law-Enforcement from both US and Germany: including the German High Command in North America, the German language department of U.S Armed-Forces, die Bundespolizei from Germany, the New Jersey and New York City Police Department,  the New York City Fire Department and the Representative from German Embassy.

Also at this year’s event there were over twenty organizations from Deutschland and Osterreich that took part in the parade. There were as well several high level Official from Germany and U.S.
